It clearly stated that all future earnings, winnings, inheritances, gifts, and assets acquired after the divorce would remain the sole property of the person receiving them.
The judge read the paragraph twice.
Then he looked directly at Mark.
"Did you read this agreement before signing it?"
Mark hesitated.
"Not every page."
The courtroom became silent.
After a short recess, the judge returned with his decision.
The claim was dismissed.
He explained that the divorce agreement was clear, legally binding, and left no room for interpretation.
My lottery winnings belonged to me alone.
As we walked out of the courthouse, Mark approached me.
For a moment, I expected another argument.
Instead, he quietly said,
"I should've let it go."
I nodded.
"So should I... years ago."
