He Cut a Fiat Panda in Half to Build a 50-Centimeter-Wide Car

What happens when an ordinary Fiat Panda meets an unusually ambitious engineer?

You get a tiny vehicle that looks almost impossible to drive.

Andrea Marazzi created a fully functioning car by dramatically reducing the width of a Fiat Panda. The result is a machine measuring only about 50 centimeters wide, narrow enough to look more like a mechanical experiment than a conventional automobile.

It isn't a toy, however.

The vehicle can reportedly run, steer, and brake, making the project far more impressive than simply cutting down a car for display.

A Fiat Panda Like You've Never Seen Before

The Fiat Panda is known for being compact and practical, but Marazzi took the concept of "small car" to an extreme.

The project involved cutting a Panda down the middle and bringing the remaining outer sections together, effectively transforming the original body into an extraordinarily narrow vehicle.

The result retains the basic characteristics of a functioning automobile while looking radically different from the Panda people normally recognize.

The body is so narrow that seeing someone drive it immediately raises the question:

How can a car this thin actually work?

It Still Runs

The most surprising part of the project is that the vehicle isn't merely a static sculpture.

It can reportedly:

  • Move under its own power
  • Be steered
  • Be stopped using its braking system
  • Be demonstrated at exhibitions

That makes the project a fascinating combination of automotive engineering and creative fabrication.

Getting a vehicle to move is one challenge.

Getting all of its mechanical systems to work together after radically changing the original structure is another.

Why Make Something This Narrow?

There isn't an obvious practical reason to build a car only half a meter wide.

It isn't intended to replace ordinary city cars, and it isn't designed as a mass-market transportation solution.

The project appears to be driven largely by creativity, engineering curiosity, and the challenge itself.

That's what makes unusual automotive projects so fascinating.

Instead of asking, "What is the easiest way to build a car?" the creator essentially asked:

"How narrow can I make one while keeping it functional?"

Not Road Legal

There's an important catch.

The tiny Panda is not road legal and is used for exhibitions rather than ordinary public-road driving.

That distinction matters because a vehicle can be mechanically functional without meeting the legal and safety requirements necessary for road use.

So while it may look like the ultimate microcar, you won't simply be seeing one replacing conventional vehicles on city streets.

Aiming for a World Record

Marazzi is also reportedly seeking recognition from Guinness World Records for what could become the world's narrowest car.

However, the record should not be described as official at this stage.

There is a difference between attempting to establish a record and actually receiving official certification.

Until Guinness World Records confirms it, the claim remains a record attempt rather than an established world record.
