I arrived at my son's wedding wearing the blue dress I had saved for nearly two years.
It wasn't expensive. It wasn't designer. But it was beautiful, and I had chosen it carefully because I wanted to look my best on one of the most important days of his life.
As I approached the entrance to the vineyard estate, violin music floated through the air and guests posed for photos among white roses and stone fountains.
I smiled.
My son was getting married.
Then everything changed.
"Your Name Isn't on the List"
The young woman at the entrance looked down at her tablet.
Then she looked up at me with visible discomfort.
"I'm sorry, ma'am," she said. "Your name isn't on the guest list."
I laughed nervously.
"There must be some mistake," I replied. "I'm the groom's mother."
She checked again.
The answer didn't change.
"I'm sorry. You're not authorized to enter."
Authorized.
The word hit me harder than I expected.
Not invited.
Not wanted.
Not authorized.
