When you're looking for a simple, quick and above all tasty meal idea, there's nothing like a good homemade puff pastry.
This mushroom and ham puff pastry is a revisited classic that ticks all the boxes: easy to prepare, economical, adaptable to your desires and above all irresistibly delicious.
With its golden and crispy dough, its generous filling with melting cheese, it has it all. Serve hot, as a main course or as an aperitif, this puff pastry appeals to young and old alike.
1. Ingredients needed for a puff pastry (4 to 6 people)
- 1 roll of pure butter puff pastry
- 200 g fresh button mushrooms
- 150 g of white ham (sliced or chiffonade)
- 150 g of melting grated cheese (Emmental, mozzarella or 3 cheese mixture)
- 1 egg yolk (for gilding)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Salt, pepper, Provence herbs (optional)
2. Step by step preparation
2.1 Cook the mushrooms
- Clean and slice the mushrooms.
- Heat the olive oil in a pan.
- Brown the mushrooms over medium heat until the water evaporates.
- Salt, pepper and add, if desired, a pinch of Provence herbs.
2.2 Assemble the puff pastry
- Spread the puff pastry on a baking tray covered with baking paper.
- Arrange in the center, in a vertical strip:
- A layer of ham
- Pan-fried mushrooms
- Grated cheese
- Cover with another layer of ham if desired.
- Make cuts on the sides of the dough, then fold each strip over the filling, crossing them.
- Brush the top of the puff pastry with the egg yolk to obtain a nice browning color.
2.3 Cooking
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan).
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the dough is golden brown.
