No need to scrub, put the oven rack in a bag: it will come out like new

The oven rack is one of the most difficult items to clean in a kitchen. After several uses, it accumulates cooked fat, charred food residue and stubborn stains that seem impossible to remove. Many people spend hours scrubbing with an abrasive sponge, without getting the desired result.

However, there is a simple tip that has been circulating among cleaning enthusiasts for years. It consists of placing the grid in a large bag with a cleaning solution to leave the product to act for several hours. The result can be spectacular, provided you use the right method and follow a few precautions.

Here's everything you need to know.

Why do oven racks become so difficult to clean?

Each cooking releases projections of fat and cooking juices.

With the high heat of the oven, these residues:

  • dry out;
  • char;
  • adhere strongly to metal.

Over time, several layers of burned fat accumulate, making simple washing with soapy water insufficient.

This is why it is often more effective to leave a cleaning product on rather than scrubbing immediately.

The bag trick: how does it work?

The principle is very simple.

Instead of cleaning the grill directly in the sink, place it in a large, durable plastic bag (or thick trash bag), then add a degreaser.

The bag allows:

  • to keep the product in contact with the entire surface;
  • to avoid its rapid evaporation;
  • to soften fat deposits.

After several hours, the residue becomes much easier to remove.
